Four injured as train hits truck at Jamalpur level crossing

At least four people were injured when a train rammed into a truck at a level crossing this morning in Jamalpur's Sarishabari upazila.

The gateman was absent so the bars were never lowered, thus the truck overturned as it collided with the Nasirabad Express train, said Rabiul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamalpur Railway Police Station, quoting locals.

The incident occurred at 4:45am near the Talukder Bari intersection level crossing in Sarishabari municipality. As a result, train services on that line was suspended for 6 hours, said Jamalpur Railway Station Master Dewan Harun.

Three out of the four people injured were from the truck while the other was the train driver Shamsul Haque, 58.

The truck driver, Helal Miah, 35, of Tarakandi village, was injured as well, along with the two others who were travelling on the truck.

The injured were rescued by the locals and rushed to the Bhuiyanpur Health Complex.

The gateman of the level crossing was detained for negligence in his duty, and further legal steps will be taken, said the railway police official.
